Alkaline or Acidic… What is YOUR Body Swimming In?

How often do you take your body for granted? Every day people wake up, stumble to the shower, grab a cup of joe and head to work. Some of us eat healthy, we go to the gym, take the stairs, read labels or engorge ourselves in endless research. Some moderately eat healthy, work out 2-3 times a week, keep processed foods at a moderate level and have a peaked interest in learning more about nutrition. The third group works out on occasion, consumes a higher level of processed and sugary foods, has started to see fat stored in places like the stomach, thighs, butt, arms and cares little about nutrition. The last is a full on couch potato whose diet is mainly processed food, their idea of exercise is going from couch to refrigerator, are very overweight or obese, and have no interest in ingredients or what they are putting into their bodies.

Even the best of us forget to appreciate how much the body does for us on a daily basis, not giving much thought about how much we use it until it breaks down. I had heard about alkaline & acidity but knew very little about how it affected the body; I decided to do some research and here is what I found.

The pH (potential of hydrogen) in the blood should be slightly alkaline, 60/40, and is measured on a scale between 0-14. Neutral is 7.0, so anything above is alkaline and anything below is acidic. There is no known disease that can survive in an alkaline (more oxygenated) state, it’s the prolonged stay in the acidic (less oxygenated) state that’s killing us. 7.4 seems to be the agreed upon number you want to keep your body at. There are two factors always present when cancer appears: an acidic pH and a lack of oxygen in the blood. To get your pH back on track and more balanced, your diet should consist of an 80% alkaline diet until it normalizes.

Our bodies work hard to naturally keep our blood tipping towards alkaline and will take from wherever in the body necessary to balance out the blood. For instance, sometimes an inadequate diet or a lack of absorption from vitamins and minerals causes the body to dip into rich mineral reserves stored in the bones to replenish the alkaline for balance us out; which can lead to Osteoporosis. If your blood is drowning more in an acidic than alkaline state, it no longer has the tools to fight off disease. A continued acidic pH state is the common ground for ALL degenerative and autoimmune diseases; so knowing your daily pH balance is a good way to maintain your present and future health.

What are some of the causes for the body to become acidic? Stress, lack of sleep, and a poor diet filled with high contents of: meat, dairy, refined sugar, artificial sweeteners, soft drinks and processed foods. Consider, drinking one glass of soda with a pH of 2.5 takes, theoretically, 32 glasses of alkaline water with a pH of 10 to neutralize or body pulls from other sources leaving them vulnerable for infection and disease. When fruits and vegetables aren’t a central part of your daily eating habits, your body pays heavily for it and Acidosis may occur.

Acidosis is over acidic production in the blood that can cause many problems such as:
Osteoporosis
Weight Gain/Obesity/Diabetes
Immune deficiency
Kidney & Bladder issues
Digestive Problems
Cardiovascular Weakness
Low Energy
Premature Aging
Joint Pain

pH Testing strips are easy and fast to use with either saliva or urine. Here is a link to Amazon where you can read reviews and purchase for yourself: Amazon pH Test Strips . I purchased my own set of testing strips today and am anxious to see what my body is generally swimming in. A good way to check to see if your strips are calibrated correctly is to test one or two using water, water’s pH level is neutral at 7.0. Happy testing.

    What is 41. Potential cancer agent. Over-indulgence may cause partial blindness.?

    1. Well there are no foods on the list that are 41 but white sugar comes in at 40… The reason such moderation is necessary.

    1. How did your pH balance come out? I’ve been testing myself 3-4 times a day this last week n a half. I’m trying to combat waking up acidic.

    yes thank you for all the research. I also have been testing my PH levels and they are very acidic, so making sure I undertand I should increase my diet with more alkaline foods correct?

    Thanks for sharing all this great information. I’ve been researching a lot about this as well since I think there may be an impact on PH and fertility as well.
