Shockingly Insane Diets No One Should Try

Wow are people really this desperate to lose weight that they would do this?

  1. Plastic Tongue Patch

Dr. Chugaya, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, has created this yet-to-be FDA-approved patch. Apparently, a custom fitted patch is sewn onto your tongue, making eating any solid food so extremely painful, you must follow a liquid diet at 800 calories a day. The procedure takes less than an hour and costs $2,000. Dr. Chugaya states, “60+ patients have received the surgery and have seen impressive weight loss results, with some losing as much as 20 pounds in the first month after surgery.”

Um, of course his patients have lost weight, they are on a strict liquid diet because there is a painful patch sewn on their tongue.

2. The K-E Tube Feeding Diet

Basically how it works is a feeding tube is inserted through your nose, down your esophagus and into your stomach. You carry the pump and solution filled with a cocktail of nutrients in a shoulder pack, that they are kind enough to provide, 24 hours a day for ten days. No food allowed.

Dr. Oliver R. Di Pietro promotes this diet here in the US. It was created in Italy for malnourished and severely obese patients but has been updated and tweaked for quick weight loss. Dr. Di Pietro’s motto is, “No Drugs, No Surgery, No Hunger”. The feeding tube diet seems  extremely popular with brides to be, as Dr. Di Pietro advertises you can lose up to 20 pounds in ten days. In the New York Times he states, “At first I decided not to do it for people who just want to lose a few pounds, but then I thought, why should I say 5 or 10 pounds are not enough? People want to be perfect.”

And I’m sure the $1500 a pop lining his pocketbook doesn’t hurt either. It’s not like the good doctor is doing this for the betterment of mankind.

3. Tapeworm Diet

Some people have said this is an easy way to lose weight because a tapeworm, which is a parasite through and through, absorbs the nutrients and calories from your food, so you don’t gain pounds. They live inside the intestines, can reach 20 feet, and produce millions of fertilized eggs that break off and are passed out along with feces or they can crawl out through your anus.

Now, in the larval stage, the little ones who haven’t been flushed out, use hooks to burrow through the host’s intestinal walls to reach the bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream they can end up anywhere in your body forming swelling cysts which can lead to: blindness, brain damage or death in some cases. There is actually evidence in the good ole days of late 19th and early 20th century of people selling pills fills with “sanitized tapeworms” to help women control their weight.

A few things here: a tapeworm isn’t big enough to take in all the calories, you’ll most likely end up malnourished, and your health may seriously suffer from the lack of nutrients. Oh and the big three here… the possibility of Blindness, Brain damage, and death…

These quick diets rarely work and only end up costing you serious amounts of cash that you can spend on living a healthy lifestyle instead. Losing weight is and will always be a lifestyle change, not a fad. If you want to shed the pounds, you have to do the work, it is as simple as that. I hate gyms. I belong to a gym that I rarely go to. But I love walking, swimming in my pool, hiking w/friends, bicycling around my neighborhood to do errands instead of driving. Just like anything else, the little things add up.
