The one thing you want to do when on vacation is enjoy and not get sick, frustrated, put out or annoyed; being prepared is the key to vacation bliss.  Enjoy these tips and feel free to comment and share your own.

Travel Tips

1. Pre-packing & carrying your own snacks is a must. Great for the airport, car rides, sightseeing, etc. This way you’re not forced to go hungry or eat something questionable because your tummy is growling.

Also, if you plan on having a kitchen to use, pack GF foods like pasta, breakfast cereal and GF bread.

2. If you’re a beer drinker, think about packing your fave GF beer to make your vacation that much more enjoyable.

3. Do a search ahead of time for restaurants in the area that have GF options

4. Be leery of your average diner. Even though the waiter may try his best, there are many different types of food made on the same grill & crumbs (cross contamination) everywhere. So even your basic fruit bowl may not be safe.

5. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. I know it can seem like we’re being a pain in the arse to the waiter, but asking now is better than paying later.

6. Never assume something is GlutenFree, always always read labels & ask questions. Things like hash browns at breakfast, may contain wheat, so don’t necessarily take the waiters word w/out checking first.

7. Stick w/whole foods as much as possible. Be leery of sauces & salad dressings. When I’m traveling I usually will just use olive oil & lemon for my dressing.

8. I generally will start my day off w/a yogurt in the morn and/or ramp up on probiotics as a just in case so my intestines are a little more prepared.

9. If you are even slightly unsure of a food, don’t eat it. It’s better to be safe than sorry and not ruin your trip.

10. Stick w/Alcohol that you know are GF like: Chopan, Tito’s, or Ciroq vodka, 100% agave Tequila, & Rum – but stay away from premixed bottle stuff because the flavoring can have hidden wheat.
